Profile
After obtaining his MD and PhD in Rotterdam, Ferdi Akca was trained as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Catharina Hospital. Eager to minimize invasiveness of surgery, he did a fellowship in minimally invasive heart surgery at the renowned Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Sydney, Australia).
Next to providing routine care for our patients, Ferdi Akca was the principal investigator that developed the surgical approach where multiple bypasses can be performed on a beating heart via key hole surgery. He is internationally renowned for his expertise in this so-called Endoscopic-assisted minimally invasive off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass (Endo-CAB) procedure.
Ferdi Akca holds the ambition to continually improve the treatment of heart patients. He closely collaborates with his peer cardiothoracic surgeons and the interventional cardiologists to provide the best possible care for each patient and contribute to the development of new, state-of-the-art treatments.
