Profile

Pieter-Jan Vlaar is an experienced interventional cardiologist. In 2011 he obtained his PhD at the University of Groningen for his thesis based on strategies to improve myocardial reperfusion after primary PCI. Then he started his residency and fellowship to become an interventional cardiologist. Since 2019 he joined the Heart Center of the Catharina Hospital, where he is an expert in complex PCI procedures.

Clinically and scientifically Pieter Jan focuses on optimizing the diagnosis and treatment of coronary disorders, acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and aortic valve disease. In addition, Pieter Jan reshaped the care path of acute Non-STEMI patients by developing and implementing a new prehospital triage, leading to improved and more efficient health care.
